Deleting Folders, Files, and Shareable Links
In Binder, you have the control to delete folders, files, and links as needed. Understanding the implications of each deletion is key, as this action is permanent and affects accessibility and data. Here’s a comprehensive guide to help you delete these items efficiently and intentionally.
Why Delete Folders, Files, or Links?
Deleting these items helps maintain a secure, clutter-free, and up-to-date document management system. When you delete a folder, file, or link, all associated access and visit data are permanently removed.
This deletion also prevents unauthorized access to outdated or irrelevant content.
Deleting Folders, Files, and Links
1. How to Delete a Folder
• Select the Folder: Locate the specific folder to delete.
• Open Options Menu: Click on the options icon (⋮) at the far right of the desired folder.
• Choose “Remove Folder”: Select “Remove Folder” from the dropdown list; it will be the last option.
• Confirm Deletion: In the prompt, click “Really Remove” to confirm and finalize the removal.
Note : For added protection and to prevent accidental data loss, folders cannot be deleted if they contain files. To delete a folder with files inside, you must first manually remove all files from the folder. Once empty, the folder can then be deleted.
2. How to Delete a File
• Access the Files Page: Go to the “Files” section using the top navigation bar.
• Open File Options: Click on the options icon (⋮) at the far right of the desired file.
• Select “Delete”: Choose “Delete” from the dropdown menu.
• Confirm Deletion: Click “Delete File” in the appeared prompt box to confirm and remove the file.
Deleting a file will remove it permanently, including any shareable links and visit data associated with it.
3. How to Delete a Shareable Link
• Select the File: Click on the file containing the link you want to delete.
• Locate the Link: Find the specific link within the file’s link management area.
• Open Options Menu: Click on the options icon (⋮) at the far right of the desired link.
• Delete the Link: Choose “Delete Link” from the dropdown menu.
• Confirm Deletion: Click “Delete Link” in the appeared prompt box to finalize the removal.
Deleting a link will disable access for anyone with the link and erase all associated visit data.
Important Insights for Safe and Effective Deletion
• Double-Check Before Deleting: Always verify the folder, file, or link you’re deleting to prevent accidental loss of important content, especially for shared resources.
• Impact of Deletion: Remember that deletion is permanent and will remove all access and associated data. This includes any links and visit data tied to the item.
• Regular Management: Routinely review and clean up folders, files, and links to keep your account organized, ensure only current information is accessible, and maintain data security.
• User Control and Access: All users, regardless of subscription level, can delete content. However, deleted content cannot be recovered, so ensure each deletion is intentional.
By following these steps and insights, you can effectively manage your Binder content, control access, and ensure that only relevant and current information is available to users. If you need help or have questions, feel free to reach out at help@binder.so.
